IIRC, salt does not make water boil faster, but it lowers the temperature at which it boils... that's why they say if you are going to salt your pasta water, do it after it comes to a boil... otherwise your pasta will take longer to cook.

PURE, distilled water boils at 212*. Salted (or any other impurities for that matter, such as the dissolved solids present in all tap water) actually RAISES the boiling TEMPERATURE of water. Salt not needed. Sorry.
