Do you just chew on jerky and hardtack?

Or do you use the 'fuel' that's laying around the forest?
Then conservation of the wood that you find, and efficient burning of it, should also be a concern.

Campfires are fine in underutilized woodlands.

Most high-adventure areas are so heavily used that packing your own hydrocarbons is the only way to do any cooking.
The forest needs its dead/fallen timber for continual renewal.
What's the purpose of going to a high-adventure area? Do you want to go camping or backpacking where everyone else goes?

When I go camping or backpacking, I have the necessities of survival. Usually this does not include fuel, unless it's a family thing and then there are more creature comforts present. I don't go camping or backpacking where everyone else goes. I go places to relax and enjoy peace and quiet, not to share jerk-off stories with a bunch of granola loving liberals at the popular spots.

They park out forests here to avoid severe forest fires. It didn't work so well this year, but mostly they burn the fallen debris throughout the forests during the proper parts of the year to avoid what's happened this year. If you own property which includes forest, you can park it out and obtain a large tax refund.
