Anybody into backpacking?
You'll KNOW that cooking at high altitude, and where very gram of packed fuel feels like a ton, you ALWAYS use the lid to achieve higher temp/boiling as soon as possible with as little fuel consumption as possible.

Most backbacking cook kits have a lightwieght metal sleeve to surround the pot, thereby capturing some of the 'waste heat' that goes around the pot.

So same theory applies in teh kitchen: Put a lid on it for faster, more efficient boil (or use teh microwave, which IIRC consumes far less energy per degree of temperature rise).

Exactly! Matt has never camped so he won't understand the concept. :beerchug:

LOL at needing fuel for camping or backpacking.
Do you just chew on jerky and hardtack?

Or do you use the 'fuel' that's laying around the forest?
Then conservation of the wood that you find, and efficient burning of it, should also be a concern.

Campfires are fine in underutilized woodlands.

Most high-adventure areas are so heavily used that packing your own hydrocarbons is the only way to do any cooking.
The forest needs its dead/fallen timber for continual renewal.
