when you boil water do you put the cover

PURE, distilled water boils at 212*. Salted (or any other impurities for that matter, such as the dissolved solids present in all tap water) actually RAISES the boiling TEMPERATURE of water. Salt not needed. Sorry.

Yeah, I realized after I typed it that I had it backwards. I use salt for flavor, not to change how my water boils anyway...

IIRC, salt does not make water boil faster, but it lowers the temperature at which it boils... that's why they say if you are going to salt your pasta water, do it after it comes to a boil... otherwise your pasta will take longer to cook.

I had it backwards... it raises the temperature. Only 7 years out of HS and basic chemistry escapes me.

But as previously stated, I add salt to boiling pasta water for flavor, not to change how my water boils.

You pour bottled water into ice cube trays? As far as the "filtered" water from the fridge goes, It is just activated charcoal. It doesn't filter anything but smell/taste.

Well, you have lawn service, can pay electricians to install vent hoods, plumbers to install dishwashers, etc. Some of us aren't rolling in extra cash. Besides, the cats would rather lick the water off of the bottom of the tub after I take a shower than drink it out of their bowls.
