wow...sorry to hear that this has happened.

Being a dog owner myself, I don't think I would do anything. That might sound bad, but I love my dog and if he killed another dog, that sucks and I am sure he would then get his ass sent off to obedieince school, but I would not put him down. I think killing your dog because he killed a much smaller dog is not an act that warrants the death penalty. If he attacked a small child, so be it...I would shoot him myself. People always come first. But it could have been a case that the big dog was playing/fighting with the smaller dog and never knew its own strength and killed it by accident.

If you could prove it killed the little dog out of sheer verocity, then that may be a different story as well.

This is an interesting thing because I have wondered about this situation myself. As many know in ligh of yesterdays lab vs. pit bull war(still funny by the way), I own a chocolate lab. He is 22 weeks old and is well over 50 pounds with a lot of growing yet to do. My brother on the other hand owns a miniture pincher. This dog is the runt of the litter too. He is over a year old and weighs 6 pounds. Now, these two dogs love each other, but Bubba(my lab) does not know his strength and if we were to leave the dogs alone I am sure he would accidently kill the little min. pin. I mean, these two guys are funny as hell to watch. They chase each other around and all sorts of funny stuff happens, but that said, Bubba has sent the little guy flying across the room a few times by accident. Its kinda scary....so yeah, I sympathize with the problem.

Do whatever your gut tells you to do. In my case, I can not imagine killing my dog because he killed my brothers dog...but then again you don't really know what you would do until you walk in those shoes.

good luck,

Sean

Damn, I actualy agree with you on this issue. Manbiters ahve no right to live, unless they were protecting their owner/owners property. A dog is a dog and it can and will do wtf it wants when owner is not around. Be it chewing on yer shoe or chewing on neighbors dog. I had the same * * * * happened to my dog once where neighbors dog ended up dead, but the only thing I did was wash the blood off my dog and payed off the neighbor so he wouldnt call the cops and have my dog neutered or some * * * *. However I no longer let my dog run around with no leash or take it to teh dog parks and whatnot. Basicaly I am trying to avoid any situation where my dog can get in contact with another unleashed dog, and its not my dog I worry about here.

That doesn't sound responsible to me.

So.... WTF happened to your dog SLTahoe???
It was strange actually. SLTahoe's dog registered not too long ago and put up a post. It was:

"My owner had a little penis but I bit it off after I killed another dog."

Strangest thing I have ever seen. A typing dog, it just sounds silly.

Buried the evidence just like a bone in the backyard.

Sorry man, putting it to sleep is the only option i'm afraid. One of my neighbors a few houses up went on vacation and left their two big Akita mixes to roam free in the back yard. Well they dug out and ran down to my house jumped my 3' chainlink fence and almost killed my golden retriever, he almost didn't survive the night. They had him quartered, one biting his neck the other his leg. He lost an entire muscle in his leg and they ripped his testicles out. I wasn't home at the time but I would have shot them both.

I let the entire neighborhood know there were fence jumping vicious dogs around and the akita neighbors had the choice basically to put the dogs to sleep or move out. So many little kids around here, it could have been any of them. They moved out a week later after paying like a 3000 dollar vet bill. They still owe me more money.
* * * * akita's man, when i was little, too young to remember actually, my dad was walking our new golden retreiver puppy and an akita ran up behind and tried to attack the puppy, luckily my dad was able to get the akita by his collar and was strong enough to keep it from biting himself or the puppy and strangled the akita by twisting his collar.
