My dog killed my mom's dog...what to do!?

-=- originally posted by Freedom04 -=-
don't know about that, but the think they are a Rottweilerand they don't realize they only weigh 7 pounds............this litlle bastard ran right into our yard, and jumped up and bit my dog right in the nose..............and then he got shaken like a rat and his skull crushed.

Tiny little dogs=Tiny little brains=tiny little cruched skulls.

Dogs are animals. The "once they've tasted blood" line is bs and comes from ignorance of animal behavior. As I understand it, your dog didn't consume the weaker dog for nutrition did it? If not then I don't think you have to worry. Just because something like this happens once in the dogs life doesn't mean the dog has somehow changed into a canicidal maniac.

Personally, I have a few relatives that I would happily off before I would off my own dog.

Do not put your dog down :naw:

Your Moms dog was probably sickly and old and asked yours to perform a mercy killing.Buy it a new collar instead for being so compassionate :yup:

or kill your devoted friend for no real good reason.....

Peace :disagree:

lets go back to this idea that maybe something, someone, some other dog...killed or REALLY hurt your moms dog...and your dog, was just trying to put it out of its misery.

i'm with steve on this one about the blood, my dogs kill things (field mice, squirrils, etc) all the time, doesnt mean they're gonna hurt me or anyone else.

i dont think you should put your dog down.

challenge your own dog to a duel, but make it fair and only use your teeth to attack it.
HAHA. I did that when I was in NH in February. My buddy's Doberman got neutered and he was so timid it was unbelievable. So I stalked around him like a dog and bit him in the snoot... He bit me back in the face, but not clenching down. :rotflmao: Needless to say I was really fawking drunk and just laughed about it. The dog felt bad and apologized by resting his head on my knee whenever I was sitting down.

I suppose that you know that female German shepherds will turn on their masters when they get old and cranky. The males won't but the females will, almost gauranteed.

It was more than likley a fight for dominance. Usually this constist of posturing and a lot of snapping and growling. Sounds like your Moms mutt was to stupid to back down and paid the price. When my dog is around another dog of the same sex this is quite common. Usually he makes short work of it and lets them know who the Alpha male is. Only one time was another Akita to stupid to back off. George bit his ear off and that's when the other Akita decided this $hit aint worth it and exited stage left in a sibmissive position. Had your Moms dog been smart enough to do this, it would still be running up dog chow bills today.

wow...sorry to hear that this has happened.

Being a dog owner myself, I don't think I would do anything. That might sound bad, but I love my dog and if he killed another dog, that sucks and I am sure he would then get his ass sent off to obedieince school, but I would not put him down. I think killing your dog because he killed a much smaller dog is not an act that warrants the death penalty. If he attacked a small child, so be it...I would shoot him myself. People always come first. But it could have been a case that the big dog was playing/fighting with the smaller dog and never knew its own strength and killed it by accident.

If you could prove it killed the little dog out of sheer verocity, then that may be a different story as well.

This is an interesting thing because I have wondered about this situation myself. As many know in ligh of yesterdays lab vs. pit bull war(still funny by the way), I own a chocolate lab. He is 22 weeks old and is well over 50 pounds with a lot of growing yet to do. My brother on the other hand owns a miniture pincher. This dog is the runt of the litter too. He is over a year old and weighs 6 pounds. Now, these two dogs love each other, but Bubba(my lab) does not know his strength and if we were to leave the dogs alone I am sure he would accidently kill the little min. pin. I mean, these two guys are funny as hell to watch. They chase each other around and all sorts of funny stuff happens, but that said, Bubba has sent the little guy flying across the room a few times by accident. Its kinda scary....so yeah, I sympathize with the problem.

Do whatever your gut tells you to do. In my case, I can not imagine killing my dog because he killed my brothers dog...but then again you don't really know what you would do until you walk in those shoes.

good luck,

Sean
