What type of coolant can I use?

As if any fluids stayed in a Jeep for years..The old style green antifreeze seems to give less trouble than the new long life coolants but you must change the green out every couple of years.
Your a little confused. All coolants are Ethylene Glycol based unless they are Propelyne Glycol based. The PG coolants are the "Safer" ones such as Sierra, Prestone low tox and Amsoil.CHRIS - I always used Ethylene glycol (smells really good in steam too) whenever I could, but it is now VERY hard to fine.
Most auto stores carry green stuff "for all vehicles", which IIRC you said was Dexcool in disguise?

No shit. I still don't know what to useApparently, some things are better just left alone.
Fawk. I read the thread I neither do I.No shit. I still don't know what to use![]()
This was Chris's recommendation, and I must say I agree with it.The old style green antifreeze seems to give less trouble than the new long life coolants but you must change the green out every couple of years. You can tell old from new by the addatives. If it lists Silicates it's the old style green stuff.
The original coolant is Zerex G-05. It is an Orange/ Pink color. Do not confuse it with Dexcool which is also Orange or Pink. Motorcraft Gold is also G-05 but with a different dye.
Dexcool and any All makes all models as well as most off the shelf long life coolants should not be put in your Jeep. Color does not mean anything any more.

I'm not impressed with the G-O5 myself.
This is awesome. It's like when those retards start wailing on a piano or doing the shit out of math.Your a little confused. All coolants are Ethylene Glycol based unless they are Propelyne Glycol based. The PG coolants are the "Safer" ones such as Sierra, Prestone low tox and Amsoil.
The difference is the anti corrosion addatives. Dexcool and the All makes all model coolants use an acid to etch metal then the other addatives are supposed to fill in those etchings and protect the metal. When the addatives wear out the acid starts to eat the thing and you get a Dexcool disaster.
These coolants also contain an addative that eats plastic. Many engines use plastic parts such as gaskets and even plastic intake manifolds that are in contact with the coolant. This is a disaster waiting to happen.
The Go5 coolant is also acid based but it also uses fast acting Silicates for corrosion protection. None of the long life coolants are designed to protect the older Soldered Radiators and should not be used with those.
