How do you get a refund from Amazon Prime if you pay for overnight shipping...

This seems to be the million dollar question. If Amazon wanted to be responsive to customers there would be a simple online form or box to check if your order is late and they could easily auto-check the delivery date/time and issue a shipping refund if necessary.

Unfortunately there is no such system and they seem to have removed absolutely everything about getting such a refund.

A question on their own forum is unanswered as of this writing: Amazon.com Customer Discussions How to get refund of $3.99 fee when package is not delivered overnight?

That said I have found what seems to be a fairly simple way- Simply go to their "Contact Us" page:
Amazon.com Contact Us - Sign In

Use amazon "Live Chat" and ask for the refund because the order is late- Make sure you have the AMAZON order number (not tracking number) ready to copy and paste into the window when they ask.

They have the power to issue a refund- the whole thing should only take a couple minutes.

Overall though Amazon is still great so I will give them a pass on not making this particular refund super-easy.

When I paid for next day delivery and it was their issue then it was credited back automatically. I ordered some gifts on a Thursday for a Saturday party and paid extra to get them Friday. They didn't ship until Friday so they refunded the extra fee. Unfortunately I had no choice and they shipped them 2-day on Friday so I didn't get them until Monday. I felt they should have shipped overnight on Friday for Saturday delivery, but didn't catch it in time to push them.

If it's their fault (they know it doesn't leave on time) then that is cool they refund automatically. However when it's the shipper's fault they haven't auto-refunded me in the past, i had to bring it to their attention.
