I suppose the perceived quality would depend on the size of TV. I can tell you that on a 60" regular DVDs look rather crappy, even on an "upconversion" DVD player.

HUGH if done correctly, the problem is most movies aren't converted using the best methods. Kinda like HD channels some movies have a big WOW factor some don't. The key is remastering film not upsampling the dvd version, and use low compression.

Still a little early for me to buy one or the other. Waiting for BR and HD DVD combo player for under $100. Until then I will stick with HD On-Demand movies over teh cable.

EDIT:

Looks like all the deals on Blu-ray have expired. Probably new ones to come before Xmas. There were offers of up to 8 movies with the purchase of a Blu-ray player.

circuit chitty has the toshiba hd-dvd for $200 plus you get 5 free DVD's. i thought they said blu-ray outsold hd-dvd this year 2 to 1.'

btw, the cheapest blu-ray player is the ps3.

I think with Disney signing an exclusive with Blu Ray, that should put then nail for HD DVD.
