What the fawk, you study this shit in your spare time or what?Hardie, Certainteed or Nichiha cementitious siding & trim. 8" reveal, 5/4 trim around windows, doors and at corners. Opt for prefinished. Looks outstanding and lasts forever.
No, I bought over a million dollars of the shit in the past year. What the fawk, you study this shit in your spare time or what?![]()
Oh.No, I bought over a million dollars of the shit in the past year.
He's 100% correct, especially where hub lives.
They tend to use a smooth finish trim in hub's climate. The composition is different and holds up to humidity and the cold better than the grain pattern we typically see. This was interesting to learn half way through a project in Canada. He's 100% correct, especially where hub lives.
Stuff still looks like new though 5 years later ON THE BEACH with ZERO maintenance. They tend to use a smooth finish trim in hub's climate. Cool, thanks how about Alside Pelican Bay?No, I bought over a million dollars of the shit in the past year.
I have windows already in. Does this integrated channel come in the trim? The 5/4 trim wraps around the window and you run the plank into it. If you go with vinyl siding, you can get an integrated j-channel within the window where you'd run the siding into it. It's a clean termination.

Not the best idea in the long run IMO. You'd have to paint everything before you install it, and then how do you keep it painted on the back sides in the future? Remember that siding has one functional purpose only: to shed water. What about a piece of 1x2 around window, run the vinyl siding into it, and put a piece of wider trim over all of it (1x3)?
Ah, thanks. Yeah, I don't have the channels, anyway how do you trim such windows? Not the best idea in the long run IMO. If your windows don't have integrated J-channel, just use regular J-channel right next to the brickmould. Personally, I'd have the brickmould wrapped in aluminum, but that's just me.
You don't. You run the vinyl siding right into those channels.Ah, thanks. Yeah, I don't have the channels, anyway how do you trim such windows?
Nothing wrong with making your own J-channel out of that stuff, except it might protrude past the brickmould on the windows and look a bit weird.Paint would not be an issue, I am using Azek for all exterior trim, the fascia's are already Azek. No exterior paint.![]()
If you trim out the windows with a homemade j-channel, I strongly suggest you caulk the mitered joints to keep water from seeping in there.Ah, ok, I just figured out what "brickmould" is, that makes sense. Yeah, between the 1/2" insulation panels and vinyl it may stick out a bit more than the 1.25" reveal that the windows have.
Built-in j-channel windows would have made this more cut and dried, but trim around the windows will look nice.
