Should really have gone with 2x6's or even 2x8's, but what is done is done. Just want to figure out if it is safe for the kids to use it as a fort for a few years, or if it is doomed to a life of lightweight storage only.

It will matter if you are trying to figure out the total load that the area will support. I found something that said 9' 2x4s on 24" centers can support around 15 lbs per sq foot....you may want to try to verify that though. 16" centers should increase that some, but making them longer will decrease it.

Huh? 2x4 joists/rafters with 3/4 OSB laid on top.
You're over the L/180 deflection limit with 10psf live and dead loads and Grade 2 Doug Fir studs.
It probably isn't going to break but it will be spongey as hell.
I wouldn't be piling 7 kids in it either.(unless I wanted to be rid of them)

Yes, because the kids will probably just sit there quietly and play cards. There is no way they are going to jump around, get rambunctious, or wrestle up there. It will be fine.
