2010 Ford Escape

MIL drove one today - CPO 19k miles, 5 year 100k mile warranty. $19,999.

MIL's sporting a 2003 Alero, HEAVILY smoked in, maintained by the Ford dealership w/ 49k on it. It's in fair condition and she was offered $2k trade-in. I wouldn't give $2k cash for her car.

Are the 2010 Escapes any good? A guy at work has an older model and the tranny puked, cost him $2750. A quick Google search digs up transmission problems.

The new ones have a lot of transmission problems. Other than that, I like the V6 AWD models. I heard that Ford finally has a fix for their transmission problems and fixed it on the '11s. I drove a '10 with a totally fawked transmission the other day and it only had 16k miles on it. It slipped like crazy.

Does the recall fix the transmission?

I just bought one for the wife, she loves it.
2010?

No idea about any recalls. I just know that we had a shitload of them fail, they'd put a new transmission in it and then it would fail again. It was my understanding that they fixed something with the valvebody and now the replacement transmissions are better.

The Ferd Clique has informed me that the transmission was changed in '09 from a 4 speed to 6 speed. The problematic transmissions, which would self destruct, were the 4 speeds. The '09-'10's had an issue with the linkage, Park to Drive type issue, not puking transmissions issue.

A brand new Hyundai Tucson or Kia Sportage won't run much more and they come with killer warranties.

Don't argue with the internet technician, his flawless diagnostic skills have yet to be proven wrong :jump:
Whenever something is wrong with one of my vehicles, I just snap a picture of the car from 20 feet away and email it to John. The diagnosis, resolution, and part numbers are sent back within 15 minutes.

Then explain all of the 6 speed autos slipping that i've personally seen. At one time, we had a whole line of those and Fusions with slipping transmissions waiting to go to the dealerships. Hell, even Mike admitted recently to seeing one replaced at his dealership. Also, explain the fleet customers with brand new Escapes that were going through transmissions every ~20k miles.

I just read it on the internets though. :jump:

Maybe everyone drives a rental like I do.

That is a valid point, but our cars don't go through transmission like that and our fleet customers also had issues. A transmission or engine failure is actually surprisingly rare for our cars.

Obviously, you are going to buy what you want to buy, but I'd be weary after what I've personally seen. Food for thought. :beerchug:
