How much should 2x4's cost?

How long? Last I remember they were about 1.90 here for a 92-5/8", 1.95 for full 8', and about 2.20 for 10', all stud grade.

If building for your trailer, use 2x2's instead. 2x4 is not needed and takes up valuable space.

Passed a place today on the way back from lunch that had $150/unit of 2x4's and $175/unit for 2x6's.

I just get mine from Home Depot. A lot are warped or otherwise bad news, but if you sift through the pile you can get good ones. They are under $3 each for a 8'.

That's pretty typical for the big boxes, since they allow people to cull. Menards is the same way in the store, but they're usually better if you need an entire bundle delivered; fewer bananas or hockey sticks.

I really need to get the trailer lights wired up on my car so I can then buy a trailer. Got projects to do that require a trailer. :naw:

When I end up finishing the basement that's what I plan on doing. If for no other reason then not having to make 100 trips to Home Depot with the Cherokee.

I never did get that wiring done. For that matter, I have a hitch, wiring and oil cooler for the XJ. Also not installed. :D

2X4X16 #2 SPF OR BTR:

$356.25/mbf --------- (mbf = thousand board feet)

(2x4x16)/12 = 10.667 bf per 2x4x16'

$356.25/1000 = $0.35625/bf

10.667 x $0.35625 = $3.80/ea

Thus, best price for a 2x4x16' #2 SPF OR BTR is $3.80ea

You can buy a lesser grade of 2x4x16' for less.

I'd like to find somewhere that still milled real 2x4s. We'd never have the same quality wood though. :(

"real 2x4s"... Rough cut or better species?

You guys have SYP down south which is superior to SPF. You can get a Douglas Fir 2x4 which is superior to both - SYP is quite close to DF though. Use DF/SYP for your plates and SPF or SYP for your studs.

As far as rough cut, good luck. Everything is nominal.
