We are proud. You see it as our lowest moment, we see it as one of our greatest. We stood up for states' rights to govern themselves. We lost. We were no more racist than any other state at that time. All states had slaves, doesn't matter if it was 1 or 1,000. The union "burned and marred" our land, then spent many years rebuilding?

The issue dealt with taxes ... the Northern Ship Yards and other Northern Industries had a racket going with the Federal Government, to tax the hell out of the South and redistribute that wealth to the developing North. Your ignorance and revisionist history is almost funny, but sadly it only makes it to the level of being pathetic. The only reason that the south exists today as more than a back water is the Strong Federal Government that provided the TVA and other projects in the first half of the last century. Only reason Louisiana has lasted as long as it has is the Strong Federal Government's Army Corps of Engineers, supported mostly with northern tax dollars. Had Lousiana contributed its share rather than wasting its funds on corrupt political bosses, the New Orleans levy's might still be standing, it is the Strong Federal Government that allowed it to last as long as it did.
